Metropolitan Ministries' MiraclePlace
Jim Erb is a proud supporter of Metropolitan Ministries. Each year at Thanksgiving his firm donates to Metropolitan Ministries. Metropolitan Ministries faithfully reaches out to poor, hungry and homeless men, women and children in their time of need — providing life-changing answers. Within their care, people find food, clothing, shelter, and other vital services. But more importantly they find compassion and hope – hope for a brighter day and future.
They are committed to reaching out and providing answers that:
- Help prevent homelessness
- Ease hunger
- Offer life-changing answers leading to self-sufficiency
- Support to transition back into our community
Jim is pictured with Morris Hintzman, D.D. CEO of Metropolitan Ministries in front of MiraclePlace. MiraclePlace provides a setting where homeless families can receive help, hope and support while they work to get back on their feet. The new facility includes 52 new transitional living units, the renovation of 47 emergency shelter rooms, a large Early Childhood Education Center, a counseling center, expanded family dining, welcome center and much more.
Chapter One of MiraclePlace provides the safety and security of a home enabling the Ministries to serve 99 families and approximately 250-300 children on any given day. To learn more, please click here: www.metromin.org/miracleplace-chapter-two.
2014 American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure
Jim Erb & Associates was proud to partner with the American Diabetes Association for the 2014 Tour de Cure.
On Sunday, March 30, 2014 Bill Becker rode for Team Erb in the annual Tour de Cure Southwest Florida cycling event! Last year there was approximately 700 riders and we raised almost $250,000. Tour de Cure is an inspirational and exciting event, not only for the experienced cyclist, but also for employees, friends and families who desire to make a difference in their local community. With several different cycling routes available, it is a great event for groups both large and small to ride their bikes towards a cure for diabetes.
If you don’t know much about Tour de Cure, this was our third year at Lakewood Ranch and we recruit riders locally from Tampa Bay down to Naples, and we also have some riders come join us from other parts of the country! Tour de Cure is the American Diabetes Association’s signature cycling and the largest cycling event for diabetes in the country! Tour de Cure is held in over 80-cities nationwide. The Tour de Cure is about changing the future of diabetes. Diabetes is America’s fastest growing disease and affects over 25 million Americans.

Erb Family Scholarships
Jim and Helen Erb believe strongly in the value of higher education. That is why they have established the Erb Family Scholarship for the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Florida State University, his Alma Mater.
Each year the Erb Family awards a scholarship to a Plant High Senior. Pictured are the 2012 award winners - identical twins Kate and Megan Dempsey, with Principal Rob Nelson. Both Kate and Megan were members of many organizations, including the prestigious Gold and Black Club at Plant High. Kate graduated with a 5.8 weighted GPA, while Megan graduated with a 6.42 weighted GPA. There is little doubt that both of these young ladies will be successful in their respective careers. Both are attending Florida State University.
Plant High Scholarship
Abbey Taub is the 2011 recipient of the Erb Family Scholarship. With a 5.07 weighted GPA, Abbey has been accepted to the University of Florida where she will pursue a degree in marketing and communication. While at Plant, Abbey created a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide home style cooked meals to those in need at Ronald McDonald House and to the homeless.
Plant High principal, Rob Nelson, congratulates Kevin Beckwith on winning the 2010 Erb Family Scholarship. Kevin was chosen for this year's scholarship because of his commitment to making a difference. Kevin has committed to playing football as a wide receiver at Mount Union College in Ohio. From his freshman year to his senior year in high school Kevin realized that the status quo would not get him to college. He turned his grades around and has been a leader on the 2010 State Champion Plant High Panthers football team. Both his mom and his dad are especially proud of their son going to college at Mount Union.
In addition to Kevin's scholarship, The Erb Family Scholarship was awarded again to last year's winner Steven Haigler. Steven is studying engineering at the University of Florida.
Plant High principal, Rob Nelson, congratulates Steven Haigler on winning the 2009 Erb Family Scholarship. Steven lost his mother to cancer earlier this year. His determination and academic achievement are allowing him to pursue an Engineering Degree at the University of Florida.
Wish Farms Strawberry Tennis Pro-Am
Jim Erb contributes to the Wish Farms Strawberry Tennis Pro-Am as a corporate sponsor. This is an annual event that is hosted at Avila Golf and Country Club in Tampa. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the Redland Christian Migrant Association (RCMA). This includes funding for new schools in under-served rural areas, and the Wishnatzki Family Migrant Scholarship which assists in the funding of a graduate degree in education for children whose families are engaged in farm work.
